Marine Corps Silent Drill Platoon riflemen wear traditional in-house rehearsal uniforms, which include black and white Converse Chuck Taylor All Star High Top shoes, while practicing their precision drill routine in the gymnasium at the Marine Barracks at 8th and I street in Washington, D.C. According to platoon members, the "Chuck Taylor tradition" started somewhere in the 1980s, when Marines realized the sneakers improved their footing during drill rehearsal.
