WIRE BRUSH DRILL ATTACHMENT : HOUGEN DRILL BITS. Wire Brush Drill Attachment
Day 44 - rear hub clean up Spent 1/2 an hour jet washing my rear suspension arms and diff cradle to get the worst of the filth off before cleaning up and then got back onto sorting out the rear hubs They'd been in the de-rust electrolysis tank overnight, not because they were that bad but there was a bit of rust in some hard to reach places. This is what they looked like after - wire brushing loose rust - scrubbing in hot soapy water with brillo pad - boiling water to dry them off quickly - standing around for 1/2 an hour because they absorbed so much heat from the water and were hurting my hands to touch for more than 3 seconds - wire brush drill attachment thingy on the drill press - WD40 + wet n dry, 800 grit on the bearing surface to get ride of any fine corrosion - more soap and boiling water I had planned to hammerite the inside of the outer hub area where the nut sits plus the back face that will take most of the handbrake dust but I'm not sure now if I can be bothered. The face and flange that the wheel sits on needs to be bare metal and obviously the splines and the bearing pin too so as it managed 150K without getting that rusty I figure I'll get away with it. I'll just pop a little oil on the surfaces to keep them tidy till fitting time Scrubbing the shower pan with a drill.
This thing was 30 years dirty. I used a 3M scrubby pad drill attachment for the surface dirt. For the really bad spots (which I think were caused by my tile mortar, oops) I used a metal wire brush drill attachment. When I tile the bathtub, I'll remember to cover the tub completely, duh.
