There are many circumstances in life when a greater understanding of mathematical concepts can lead to improved conditions for people with special needs. Students will record data relating to the gradient of a wheelchair access ramp, with the intention of advising on the ideal slope (rise and run) in a particular location at the school. Students will make recommendations about all wheelchair access ramps, and give consideration to how mathematical concepts can be applied to other problems encountered by people with special needs (e.g. parking spaces). |
