Project Description:

The democratic principles that the United States holds dear today were not always seen as automatic rights.

To understand the influence of ordinary people in social movements as well as the ever-evolving nature of civil rights, our students examined the Constitution and the Bill of Rights. Using the Voices and Choices program, they then analyzed how these documents were used in civil rights issues that span American history. In culmination, the students worked on current issues for their mock trials and applied the knowledge they gained in class to argue their own cases regarding civil liberties.
