Project Description:

How can we connect international conflicts and issues to our own lives and experiences?

Read all about it! Read and view students' news stories about past and current international conflicts and issues.

Students explored different social issues: the genocide in Rwanda; the genocide in Darfur; China human rights issues, specifically the one child policy; the achievement Gap in United States education; the Israeli-Palestinian conflict; global human trafficking; immigration from Mexico; and the drug trade in South America. Each topic was connected to previous units and each other. Students created a newscast incorporating what they learned in their ELA Media Persuasion unit as well as their math linear equation unit. The theme for this project allows the students to put issues into a global context and to ask themselves the question, "Is change possible?"
