Schlitz Cenotaph- Forest Home NRHP #80000166 Joseph Schlitz married into the Krug family Brewery and changed the name in 1858. The Schlitz Company became successful after the Great Chicago Fire when it donated hundreds of barrels of beer and many Chicago breweries never reopened. Even though his family is buried here, Schlitz was lost on a new transatlantic steamer called the Schiller on May 7, 1875 during bad weather on the English Channel. The ship was on its way from New York to Hamburg. Also lost were Milwaukeeans Henry Friend who was the head of a very large clothing store, the Hermann Zinkeisen family, Marcus Stein, and Mrs Maria Miltner. In total the ship had 120 crew, 149 passengers in cabins, and 136 passengers in steerage. There were only 43 survivors. Store room in an old rural house
In winter and summer this store-room has constant temperatures that make it possible to store potatoes and to have the flower boxes there. Wouldn?t it be a nice beer pub too?
