Scissor Sisters Song List - Acme Scissor - Cuisinart Kitchen Shears. Scissor Sisters Song List
Lost in the Music thirty Darren's totally uncool favorite albums of 2010 The reason I call my list uncool is because I don't like a lot of the critical darlings, and since I don't discount popular or pop music I often will include artists that others may not even bother to listen to or dislike based on reputation. Since I don't listen to radio or follow any entertainment shows I don't even care about what is being "overplayed". My list is simply the music I personally enjoyed listening to the most. They're my favorites, I make no claim that these are the "best". Frankly I don't believe it is even possible to rank or score music so therefore a "best of" list is kind of rediculous. Music is an art, not a science. It's totally subjective and dependent on the listener. So without further ado... Looking through my albums from 2010 I have to come to the conclusion it was a fantastic year for music, at least to my ears. I started by trying to eliminate down to just the albums that had a significant amount of songs I loved. It was painful to just get down to that number. Picking a top 15 from that list was simply heartbreaking because I had to drop so many albums I loved. I think it was harder this year than any of the other years I have made such lists. I have noticed that artists I have seen live I have grown to appreciate even more so for full disclosure I will indicate who I have seen live. My favorite albums of 2010. 1. Grace Potter and the Nocturnals (seen live in 2009, 2010) Metacritic - 63 This one was almost a no brainer and I think anybody who knows me knew this was coming. We heard most of the new album months before it was released at her live show in 2009 and after listening to it all year long, heard it live again this week. I love it as much now as I did when I first heard it. Every time I listen to the album I fall in love with a different song, and THAT is why I have to rank this album my favorite of the year. I know some people were initially turned off by this album because the band sounds more polished than ever, but there are just so many fantastic songs on this album. 2. Scissor Sisters - Night Work (seen live in 2010) Metacritic - 71 Yes, it's pop, it's dance and it channels disco and despite all of that, I love it. I had imagined they would be fun to see live and so drove to Montreal to see them on a weeknight. I was not disappointed. These guys are so much fun, and this album is filled with great catchy pop songs, if you are not biased against pop, dance and disco of course, otherwise don't bother. 3. JJ Grey & Mofro - Georgia Warhorse (seen live in 2010) Metacritic - unrated It seems to me JJ Grey & Mofro is getting better with every album they release. This album had many songs I loved upon first listen and still love now after hearing them many times. Of course this is also the style of music I am most accustomed to listening to so I'm a little biased. 4. Luke Doucet & The White Falcon - Steel City Trawler (seen live in 2010) Metacritic - unrated I originally stumbled onto Luke Doucet because I was a fan of his wife's music. Now that I've gone back through his catalog and seen him live I am simply amazed that he has not enjoyed more success than he has. He is simply fantastic. I don't think he is well known outside of Canada and to be hoenst, he's not all that well known in Canada either. A fantastic guitar player and an incredible song writer. 5. Basia Bulat - Heart of My Own (seen live in 2010 X 3) Metacritic - 72 A perfect example of how seeing someone live can make you appreciate them more. Upon first hearing her album I thought it was interesting but not exceptional. Then I saw her live and started to warm up to her. I saw her live a second time and became and even bigger fan. By the time I saw her the 3rd time I was completely won over and am loving the album. We will be seeing her a 4th time in the Spring. 6. Marina and the Diamonds - The Family Jewels (never seen live) Metacritic - 68 This album showed up on my recommended list at Amazon so I checked it out. Boy was I surprised! I'm not even sure what this is? I guess it's some sort of pop music but what an interesting sound. 7. Hawksley Workman - Milk (saw live in 2010) Metacritic - unrated Hawksley Workman is a strange and prolific artist. He put out not one, but two albums in 2010. He is constantly changing his sound and experimenting. Not only does every album sound diferent, the songs on the albums sometimes can be quite the hodgepodge of sounds. Milk is one such example. Such a wide variety of odd. Yet so many songs I love. 8. Sharon Jones & The Dap-Kings - I Learned the Hard Way (seen live in 2010) Metacritic - 81 I always found Sharon Jones' throwback sound to motown quite appealing. I think this was my favorite album from the band yet, oh and they're fantastically entertaining live too. 9. Janiva Magness - The Devil Is an Angel Too (never seen live) Metacritic - unrated Ks Sông L?c,Tân Châu
