PHOTO MUGS FREE SHIPPING - JAGER BOMB SHOT GLASS - BEER STEIN GLASSES. Photo Mugs Free Shipping
dan Okay, I know. Totally stupid, but context counts. First, there are photographers everywhere. At dinner, at the bottom of the gangway, at the shows, at random intervals around the ship at all times, and in one particular studio with the standard pure white backdrop and triple-lame prop collection. You can have your picture taken for free as many times as you want (or, rather said, however many times they want since over half of the photo-ops are involuntary). You can even engage the studio photographer gratis. Every day, then, the camera folks post the days' pictures in what could be accurate dubbed Photo Alley, where you plays a Where's Waldo-esque game of finding your photos and deciding whether or not to purchase them. Their cost is exorbitant at fifteen bucks for an 8x10 and nine for a 5x7, but one has to bear in mind that with the inefficiency of the process as it stands, they throw away at least 80% of the photos they print. That's a lot of overhead cost. Anyway, after dinner Betsy thrust her kids into the studio for some shots which I thought were pretty handsome and certainly Christmas card-worthy but which the girls reviled. (Okay, the one where they caressed Nathan's chest Charlie's Angels-style was a bit much.) After the Sunukjian kids took their turn, I was coerced in front of the camera and, for once in my socially awkward history with the Sunukjian parents, saw that I then had TWO options: (1) acquiescing embarassingly, smiling through genuine uncomfortability, (2) mugging outrageously, pursing, pouting come-hitherishly, crossing legs, employing the stupid picture frame, and declaring afterwards that "I wasn't always a teacher." Anyway, I tried to hide my portrait shots (all of which the photographers dutifully printed) but Betsy found them and produced this one at 0300 on the day of my plane flight telling me to give it to my mom. Betsy is way sweet but I'll get her for this. MUG - Aug2.2007
