Week 44 - Food
Week 44 - Food
This weeks 52 weeks theme is "Food" . As some of you might know I embarked on a journey of health and fitness in Spetember 2010. At that stage I was an extremely out of shape individual and seriously needed to get my life back in order. One of the key changes I had to make was to redefine my relationship with food.... I have always loved good food, and to make long term changes that was sustainable I knew that I could not "go on a diet" and deny myself the joy of eating......but I had to stop eating toasted cheese sandwiches for breakfast, and burgers or pies for lunch - that was quite obvious. Today - 15 months later I have lost 55kgs (120 lbs), and I am a healthy and very fit individual - most people that know me remark that "it must have been hard" - but you know what - it honestly has not been - I can not believe how easy it actually was once I got my head in the right place - I just wonder why it took me 15 years to actually figure it out! This is what a typical lunch for me now looks like - a basic garden salad, with whatever gorgeous fresh vegetables are in season ( at the moment I am loving the fresh asparagus) and then some protein - some days salmon, others tuna or some boiled eggs - and then my personal favorite - some juice rare beef fillet (sorry to those that does not like the look of rare meat ...) Below was my breakfast on the same day - gorgeous fresh mango, papaya and strawberries with creamy Greek yoghurt :-) The only difference from my daily routine is that the food is not normally styled this way ;-) So I have been eating better (and actually more) than I used to eat - and the weight have come off as a bonus :-) I am actually in Kuala Lumpur today - and there is this fantastic market in the street outside my hotel - so as a bonus have a look at all the other gorgeous food shots I managed to get this week :-)
Week 3 - Memories
Week 3 - Memories
This weeks 52 weeks theme is Memories..... At Xmas I was back in South Africa visiting my family and I found this letter that my dad had sent my mother when he found out that she was pregnant with their 2nd child. In 1961 my parents were a very young newly married couple with a 6 month old colic baby (me) At the time my dad was a game ranger in the remote north of the Kruger National Park - and the closest doctors was a 5 hour drive away, so I can only imagine the stress these two very young people were under with a baby that never stopped crying - and would only sleep if she was being carried in someones arms... I must have been around 6 months old when this letter was written (there is only 14 months difference between me and my brother), and I can just imagine their trepidation at having another baby....Thank goodness he was a happy placid baby - and apparently slept right through the night from very early on - long before me apparently :-) In the letter my dad refers to me as the "presentone" - and my gorgeous brother Kris (see below) was the "expected new addition to the family" - so yes - my dad did get the son he had requested. To this day I am the "energiser bunny" and he is the laid back surfer dude - and I am so glad he is my brother, and that we share this and many more happy memories :-) I used Photoshop to put the collage together and in the process "lost" the exif data of my weekly photo - the letter that my dad had written which was taken 16 Jan 2011
