Penstock Gate Valves. Butterfly Valve Selection.
Penstock Gate Valves
gate valves
- A valve with a sliding part that controls the extent of the aperture
- (GATE VALVE) A two-way valve that may be opened or closed to block the flow of fluid in a passage. Normally manually operated, but may be automated, especially for larger sizes.
- (Gate valve) A gate valve, also known as a sluice valve, is a valve that opens by lifting a round or rectangular gate/wedge out of the path of the fluid.
- (Gate valve) A valve with a circular-shaped closing element that fits securely over an opening through which water flows. A valve that utilizes a disc moving at a right angle to the flow to regulate the rate of flow. When a gate valve is fully opened, there is no obstruction to the flow.
penstock
- A channel for conveying water to a waterwheel or turbine
- sluicegate: regulator consisting of a valve or gate that controls the rate of water flow through a sluice
- A penstock is a sluice or gate or intake structure that controls water flow, or an enclosed pipe that delivers water to hydraulic turbines and sewerage systems. It is a term that has been inherited from the technology of wooden watermills.
- gate or sluice used in controlling the flow of water; a tube or trough for carrying water to a water wheel.
- A sluice or floodgate for regulating the flow of a body of water
Hoover Dam's Penstock Towers
Two of the four Hoover Dam's penstock towers. The water enters the penstock towers funnel which the water towards the powerhouse. Hoover Dam is a concrete gravity-arch dam, built between 1931 and 1936 at a cost of $49 millions. It is 379m (1,244ft) wide and 221.4m (726.4ft) tall.
