Scouts

The Scout Leaders are Alan & Skip

Scouts is about joining in, making friends and having fun with your mates. It really is about having a go at something different and not about being taught and tested like you are at school, although you can still work for badges that are awarded for taking on new challenges.

So what do we do? We try to do things that you might not get the chance to do elsewhere. For example, archery, camping and other nights away, climbing, off road mountain biking, skiing, horse riding, canoeing, fire lighting, cooking outdoors (and eating what you cook!), water fights, survival skills, first aid, and loads more. Check the following link for more information on Scouting in general:

Our Troop has regular meetings from 7:00pm until 8:30pm on Tuesday nights during school term time. We can’t do some of the more adventurous activities listed above on a weekday night but we do go outside a lot, particularly to play ‘wide games’. A wide game is like a giant game of hide and seek with all sorts of variations to make it interesting.

The Scouts age range is from 10½ to 15, and you don’t have to have been in Cubs to join. As young adults you are encouraged to take more responsibility for yourself and show respect for others. That’s why the choice of things that Scouts do is largely down to the Scouts themselves. The Leaders just help it happen.

Are there any boring bits? That depends on your point of view... As Scouts is a group activity, to show that you are part of that group you have to wear uniform (the only compulsory parts are the shirt and neckerchief / scarf). It is also appreciated if you give a little time to help raise funds at things like bag packing. It is also appreciated if Scouts turn up to Church Parade, typically only twice a year; on Remembrance Sunday and St George's Day.
