The problem is marked in purple, a non-return double check valve that prevents water from going back into the mains. It was faulty and had conked out just at the worst possible time. This valve is corroding underneath this insulation. It also does not allow the Relief Valve to freely dump the water. If anyone tells you this protects the valve I have one question you need to think about. Where is the heat source that is keeping your valve from freezing or the water inside from freezing?
