Sauternes colour swatch

A selection of half bottles of Sauternes from the same case of 24. On the left is the first bottle that brought the problem to our attention. Quite a range of colours considering it's the same wine, same chateau and same year, all from the same box! Half bottles are notorious for significant variations in quality and uneven development. In this case I suspect that sometime earlier in its lifetime the box was subjected to excessive heat which caused the colour change. Bright natural or artificial light can also do this but this was sealed in a wooden box. Keep your wine in a cool dark place!!

An attempt to make a cool photo of a bottle of wine. The lighting is a Nikon SB-24 with a Pringles can snoot firing at 1/64. The is no ambient light as I turned off the overhead lights and it was dark outside. Not a great photo, but I learned a lot. Such as EVERYTHING shows up on glass and so do wrinkles when back lit. Oh well.
