This morning I took delivery of a second hand copy of Aldous Huxley's 'Music at Night', which to the best of my knowledge is now out of print. I was fortunate enough to find an old copy in good condition through an on-line bookseller. As I settled down with my breakfast coffee to peruse this little book, I realised with some surprise and pleasure that it is 60 years old. The book is inscribed with the name of the original owner, the area in which he lived and the date of the book's acquisition. I like the fact that I now own a book which belonged to, and was read by, someone else. These things add to the sense of place and time in which this collection of essays was written. I then thought about yesterday's discussion with the lads in the office, about whether electronic book readers will make printed books obsolete. I hope not, because it is nice to handle a book, and to be able to read it without the aid of a computer. Electronic files seem so ephemeral - one click of a delete button, or a malfunction of a hard drive and they are gone. Now, I wonder whether an electronic copy of 'Music at Night' would survive for 60 years and be passed down to someone of a future generation. No, probably not. Sorry about my absence this week - I will be catching up with you all this weekend. I can't wait to see what you have all been up to :0)

We didn't find this one on the set of an old sitcom, but we did think the homage to Punky was apt. Please meet, Funky Brewster! We've been making this style of lamp for nearly seven years and it has always been a favorite. Here we take a 1960s Universal percolator and add two amber flashing C7 bulbs to the interior to light the glass top, and another in the base to illuminate the old red "coffee is ready" light! We love it! Next door is an avocado green melmac cup with light brown saucer. Both are attached to a reclaimed antique brass lamp base. A three way rotary switch allow for separate or simultaneous illumination of the components. New cord. All bulbs included. 19"H x 16"W How about moving Funky Brewster to your funky abode!
