風雨沉沉的夜裡，
前面一片荒郊。
走盡荒郊，
便是人們底道。
呀！黑暗裡歧路萬千，
叫我怎樣走好？
「上帝！快給我些光明吧，
讓我好向前跑！」
上帝慌著說，「光明？
我沒處給你找！
你要光明，
你自己去造！」

In a night leaden with gale and rain
ahead afield lies uncultivated ground.
Through fields of ground uncultivated
are roads for us all around.
Ah, in darkness winding roads cross and turn,
how do I walk right?
"God! Shed me some light,
so that I could hit the road running!"
God hurriedly said, "light?
I've nowhere to gather from for you!
If you wish for brightness,
you go create yours!"
