Oil Safety Valve

oil safety valve
    safety valve
  • a valve in a container in which pressure can build up (as a steam boiler); it opens automatically when the pressure reaches a dangerous level
  • A safety valve is a valve mechanism for the automatic release of a substance from a boiler, pressure vessel, or other system when the pressure or temperature exceeds preset limits. It is part of a bigger set named pressure safety valves (PSV) or pressure relief valves (PRV).
  • The safety valve is a provision in the Sentencing Reform Act and the United States Federal Sentencing Guidelines that authorizes a sentence below the statutory minimum for certain nonviolent, non-managerial drug offenders with little or no criminal history.
  • A means of giving harmless vent to feelings of tension or stress
  • A valve opening automatically to relieve excessive pressure, esp. in a boiler

Oil!
This novel originates from the 'Teapot Dome' oil scandal of President Warren Harding as oil barons bribe politicians. It is about greed and the oil boom of Southern California in the 1920's. It is wrapped up in evangelic crusades by shifty preachers and leftist labor activists. "Oil" is a provoking novel as a man and his son plunge into the oil drilling business and all that they do and what is around them. 28.05.2010 Por Ed Stoddard *** Obama visits the Gulf; emptying is the greater of history: VENICE, United States (Reuters) Barack Obama will pass for the coast of the Louisiana, where a layer oil viscose invaded the green land, paralyzed the lucrative fishing activity and annoyed a population that still recovers of the impact of the Katrina hurricane, in 2005. The British company BP, owner of the well that is gushing out oil, said that got some progress in this Friday in the containment of the emptying. In the case of Obama, the problem is that the federal government does not withhold the technology nor the tools to decide this type of disaster the 1,600 meters of depth, and depends on BP to find a skill to contain the emptying. The government has made responsible integrally BP for the disaster. In the friday, BP said that not yet it knows to evaluate the success of the operation, and that the mud bombardment goes to continue more for the 24/ 48 hours. If " this form" of the well not to function, BP still can try to deviate the oil that is gushing out, to collect it in the surface, or to install a new safety valve in the mouth of the well. Parallel to this, the company is excavating two wells auxiliary, from which will be able to try to cure the problem, but this still must take some weeks. Initially, BP passed weeks saying that the well was liberating about 800 a thousand liters of oil per day. In the thursday, the government divulged new ciphers that indicate a bigger amount four or five times. May 28, 2010 For Ed Stoddard

Stanley Steamer
Early Stanley cars had light wooden bodies mounted on tubular steel frames by means of full-elliptic springs. Steam was generated in a vertical fire-tube boiler, mounted beneath the seat, with a vaporizing gasoline (later, kerosene) burner underneath. The boiler was reinforced by several layers of piano wire wound around it, which gave it a strong, yet relatively light-weight, shell. In early models, the vertical fire-tubes were made of copper, and were expanded into holes in the upper and lower crown sheets. In later models, the installation of a condenser caused oil-fouling of the expansion joints, and welded steel fire-tubes were used instead. The boilers were safer than one might expect – they were fitted with safety valves, and even if these failed, a dangerous overpressure would rupture one of the many joints long before the boiler shell was in danger of bursting, and the resulting leak would relieve the boiler pressure and douse the burner with little risk to the occupants of the car. There has never been a documented case of a Stanley boiler exploding in use.[
