Student of the Month

September
 

 

 

Hannah Hansen has been selected as the Athens High School Student of the Month for September.  Hannah is the daughter of Eric and Cheryl Hansen of Springfield.  A few words that describe Hannah are: energetic, motivated, and sincere.  Hannah has been involved in several activities during her tenure at AHS.  Hannah is involved in academic organizations such as National Honor Society, Executive Student Council, Drama Club, and Leadership Club.  In addition, Hannah is actively involved in Student Council, Leadership Committee, Teens making a Difference, Yearbook, and the school newspaper.  Hannah also supports the athletic program through her participation in Poms and the Fellowship of Christian Athletes.  She has earned several awards in Poms and she is currently the captain of the squad.

As well as school orientated clubs and organizations, church as been in the forefront with Hannah.  In 2008-2009, Hannah was selected as Ms. Athens. Hannah has been an excellent student while at Athens High School and has challenged herself throughout her high school career.  She plans to attend school in Redding, California, where she plans to become a pastor to work alongside her father. 

Student of the Month

Laura Penrod is the October Student of the Month at Athens High School.  Laura is the daughter of Douglas and Deborah Penrod of Athens.  During her time at A.H.S., she has earned excellent grades and is currently ranked in the top 5 of the senior class.  A role-model, determined, and enthusiastic are just a few words that describe Laura well.  She has made the most of her academic career by taking a rigorous course load.  Laura has been involved in numerous school-related activities.  She currently is a member of National Honor Society, Yearbook Staff, Leadership Committee, Teens Making a Difference, Family, Career, and Community Leaders of America, Drama Club, Student Council, Class President, Fellowship of Christian Athletes, and the newspaper staff.   In addition to the school activities, Laura has excelled in athletics through her involvement on the swim team and the basketball team. Outside of school, she writes for the Springfield Journal Registrar, “The Voice”, volunteers for mission trips, participates on the WOW praise team at her church, volunteers to assist at the church nursery and bible school, and participates on the church youth council.

            Throughout all her experiences, Laura has developed into a well rounded individual and plans to make a difference in the world around her.  Her future plans include attending the University of Illinois-Champaign Urbana and major in speech and hearing sciences.   From there she plans to earn her master’s degree to become a speech therapist.
