While working towards an Ed.D. from Western Illinois University, I have changed the topic of my dissertation three times. During periods of change, I have not changed my focus - improving teaching and learning. My dissertation will now focus on the use of student feedback and teacher reflection on teacher effectiveness in the social studies classroom. It is my belief that this study will have the ability to be generalized to most content areas. My study will not take place in our school with our staff. My advisors caution against studying your own building or district. It is my hope that my results will provide solid information for improving teaching effectiveness. Increased effectiveness will increase student engagement. Student engagement is already a research-proven factor in increased student achievement.
I am currently in my 4th year as a member of Cohort 3 in the WIU Educational Leadership Doctorate Program.
Education should be life-long. I believe that all of us should be willing to take the time to improve what we do and how we do it.
