Fed up with the fan noise on the stock heatsink / fan on the newly acquired, el-cheapo Leadtek WinFast PX6200TD PCI-E VGA card, I ripped it out, modified a Socket 478 Pentium 4 heatsink, and installed the new heatsink onto the card in a Frankenstein fashion. Originally I intended to run it fanless, but the subsequent overclocking and cross-flashing to nVidia GeForce 6600 forced me to install a fan to cut down on the visual artifacts due to overheating. The quiet Minebea / Matsushita fan obtained from a surplus electronics store is inaudible when in operation, and help keep the temperature under control.

Here's a cooling fan from an old Pentium 4 PC. It was used to suck air in from the front of the case to cool my hard drives. A carpeted room and the fact it was on 24/7 means it also sucked up a lot of dust over the years. It used to be clear acrylic!
