April 5, 2008 - Preparing replacement parts for assembly. Anyone thinking of attempting a Batmobile rebuild should be aware up front that the hellishly expensive parts available on eBay and elsewhere are of atrocious quality and far from ready for assembly. I have had to throw away probably ten percent of the bits I bought as they were not usable. The others needed a lot of careful trimming, filing, drilling, cutting and shaping before they were vaguely ready to fit to the car. Creating the red light and fitting the gold cage to the replacement windscreen took a lot of time, patience and super glue! I used another pre-restoration car to confirm what the finished product should actually look like. I can't emphasise enough how bad the spare parts are!

This is the oldest surviving toy from my childhood ... also one the oldest memories I have, it was given to me by my mother while waiting in a shopping mall in the sixties. Since most of my childhood possesions were destroyed in a fire this is a real survivor. (HDR-image)
