The official rate was about 2,000 bolivares to the dollar. On the black market, however, one could easily get 2,500-4,000. That's the difference between paying $25 for your 50,000-bolivares meal and paying $15. Unfortunately, we had mostly travelers checks, and it was much harder to change that.
