Call for Presentations

Proposals

Do you have a passion for mental health and healing? Have you found ideas that work for the American Indian community? Is there information you can share that improves cultural competence?

If yes, please consider submitting a proposal to share your information, experience, and insights with our conference participants.

Who attends our conference:

  • Psychologists and other mental health workers
  • Social workers (e.g., school, ICWA, child protection)
  • Foster parents, adoptive parents/grandparents, home study workers, licensing workers
  • Teachers (including Head Start, early education, and elementary & high school)
  • Case managers, AARMS workers
  • Substance abuse counselors
  • Corrections workers
  • American Indian community members and those working for the community

Topics of Interest to our attendees:

  • Learning different types of trauma (e.g., historical trauma, micro-aggressions, oppression, etc.)
  • Identifying and understanding symptoms of trauma
  • Healing from trauma through somatic experience, dance, ceremonies, singing, and integrating cultural knowledge and practices with "western" practices
  • Enhancing cultural competence in professionals working with trauma in the American Indian community
  • Applying healing practices to different settings, including home, school, and community, as well as self-care for professionals and paraprofessionals from secondary trauma
  • We will consider other proposals that fit with the above ideas...

Procedure

Please complete the "Call-For-Papers" link at www.aimhac.eventbrite.com for submitting a proposal. Proposals will be reviewed by the conference committee and notice of accepted presentations will be sent by email by March 1, 2010.

Update: The deadline of proposal submissions is extended March 8, 2010.

Please remember the following dates in relation to presentation proposals.

March 1 - Deadline of proposal submissions
March 15 - Presenters notified of proposal acceptance or decline
March 30 - Contracts due back to IHB
April 25 - Presenters please register for the conference online
June 1 - Last day of submission of power point presentations and hand-outs
June 15-17 - Conference Proper
