Student Recognition and Support


To encourage students to participate and present their work in front of the international community of their peers, GEC helps with some student travel and presents the award for best student paper.


STUDENT AWARD FOR EXCELLENCE

Award purpose.  To recognize the quality of both the student's research and his/her presentation, each year, the GEC presents a monetary award to the student with an oral presentation. The student needs to be nominated by his/hers adviser.
       
Guidelines:
  • Send the nomination by June 12, 2009, to the Conference Chair
  • Required documentation:
    • A copy of the student's abstract
      • Human readable format
      • Do not send the raw LaTeX file
    • Nomination letter by the student's adviser
      • The adviser may nominate only one student     
   
STUDENT TRAVEL ASSISTANCE

Grant purpose.  The purpose of the grant is to enable students to attend the GEC who otherwise would not be able to attend.  The grant will cover only a portion of the travel costs. 

Guidelines:

  • Send the application by June 12, 2009, to the Local Secretary
  • Required documentation:
    • A copy of the student's abstract
      • Human readable format
      • Do not send the raw LaTeX file
    • Nomination letter by the student's adviser
      • The adviser may nominate only one student
    • NOTE:  All the submitted information will be kept strictly confidential

If students are interested in sharing a room to defray housing costs, they can try finding a suitable roommate by posting at the 2009 GEC Group Forum.
