Today I ate lunch at Cluck-U Chicken on H St NE. This was the first time I've ever eaten at Cluck-U Chicken, even though there are locations close to my home and office. While I had heard from several people that their chicken is teh awesome, I wasn't too impressed. Actually, I'm not sure exactly what their chicken tastes like. I ordered the Buffalo chicken sandwich, at which point I was asked, "Which sauce do you want?" "Uh... Buffalo sauce. I'm ordering the Buffalo chicken sandwich." "Yeah, but which sauce? The list is over there." "I guess whichever is between mild and hot. But I want, you know, Buffalo sauce." "OK, that's Atomic." "Cool. As long as it's Buffalo sauce." When the sandwich eventually comes out, I see that the chicken is drenched in a thick, reddish sauce that looks very much like ketchup. Which is weird because Buffalo sauce is usually thin and orange. And the sauce tastes very much like a spicy ketchup, so I'm pretty sure it's spicy ketchup. I take the sandwich up to the counter. "Hi. I ordered a Buffalo sandwich, but this is covered in ketchup." "It's Atomic sauce." "But it tastes like ketchup." "Here, I'll have you taste the Atomic sauce so you can see for yourself." I taste the Atomic sauce. It tastes like ketchup. "It tastes like ketchup, the same as what's on my sandwich." "Yeah, so it's Atomic." So I went back to my seat and ate my ketchup chicken sandwich. As far as I could tell, the chicken was alright, but it was kinda hard to taste it with all that ketchup on it. Then again, I wouldn't have fully tasted it with Buffalo sauce either, but whatever. The mac and cheese was definitely good, though. I'll give them another chance but will get a plain sandwich or a fried chicken meal. You'd think a chicken joint would do better with sauces.
