I interviewed Paul in his home in Granbury, Texas, a few days after he had returned from Papua New Guinea. His expedition, deep in the mountains of the mainland of Papua New Guinea, late in 2006, was historic: Video images of the bioluminescent indava--that was what he brought back from the Tawa Village area; to the best of my knowledge, it was the first video of its kind to enter the United States. Although the image of two distant slowly-pulsating lights gave no indication of the form of the creatures, it was solid evidence of what eyewitnesses had described to us for years.
After my interview with Paul, I made a digital copy of 13 seconds of the video of the two lights. After returning to California, I gave another digital copy of this to Garth Guessman, who gave it to the physicist Cliff Paiva. (digital copies are exact, not suffering any degradation during copying.) Paiva did extensive investigations of the video. His report made it clear that the lights were not from an airplane, meteor, camp fire, lantern, or paste-on hoax.
Expedition Details
Jim Blume, a missionary pilot who has lived many years in Papua New Guinea, flew Paul Nation and Jacob Kepas to the small airstrip near Tawa Village; there were problems and it took two flights to get the two explorers and their luggage up to the high-elevation air-strip. Paul and Jacob became acquainted with the local villagers and found a local guide. The terrain was arduous to climb but they got to a viewing location where they had several sightings. But Paul did not get video recordings here but lower down near Tawa Village.
