The Girl with the Silver Eyes
Katie Welker is used to being alone. She would much rather read a book than deal with other people. Other people don’t have silver eyes—and other people can’t make things happen just by thinking about them.
Katie has a hard time making friends because of her telekinetic powers—the people around her just don’t understand. Katie knows she’s different, but she would never try to hurt anyone. When she finds herself in trouble, Katie seeks out other kids who have silver eyes like hers. But can her newfound friends help her? Should they use their special powers? Will they be forced to?
This beloved classic from Willo Davis Roberts, originally published in hardcover in 1980, is now available as an Aladdin paperback and will enthrall a new generation of eager readers.

Because I have these adorable new earrings. Because the L Challenge demands I copy a work of art and because actually this was pretty easy... Also: I actually GIMP'd this. I dodged my lips and eyes, sort of blurred out my tired shadows, layered up contrasts, and cloned out a spot. Just don't look too closely m'kay? I hate manipulation generally (because I can't do it well) so this is more an experiment than anything else! And so you have a double bubble - catching up on my 52 weeks has meant two photos for you this week! A bit about the painting this is based on. I did an English Literature degree. I had to read some heavy going lit, some difficult texts, some dull poetry, novels...you get the picture. When I graduated, I took a trip to London, and "The Girl with a Pearl Earring" was on offer in the station. So I bought it, read it on the return train journey and genuinely loved it. It's not heavy, meaningful, doesn't change the world...but it is though provocing, evocative and MUCH better than the film. Although I'd give anything for Johansson's lips. Ok, stopping waffling now and going to work.

Yesterday was hugely fun. We did a model shoot from about 12 to 6. 7 photographers and maybe 8 models. We only had one studio so some of us went outside to work. A guy across the road was very interested in watching. The models were nothing short of fantastic, and up for anything. I’m not kidding either. We found what looked like a shed that hadn’t been cleaned in 10 years. Full of cobwebs and very old bins. So one girl gets in and lies down on the bins! Fantastic shots though and I’m totally sold on natural light. I find studio work hard because its all about the pose. I don’t know how to position the models to look “cool”. However, outside it all seemed to work. We took turns holding the reflector and what a job it did. Even on a 18% grey overcast day. I couldn’t work out where this light was coming from but it was brilliant. I’m going to invest in a silver / gold reflector and something to hold it and somehow do more shoots. What better way to spend a Saturday than with 8 stunningly attractive girls getting to take lovely photos of them.
