Farmland From a series called "Farmland" - a Palladium print. Each summer a group of like minded steam powered and early gas powered farm equipment gather to swap stories, parts, and tales. These old shapes are intriguing to me. The Palladium print process yields one of a kind prints of unique beauty and clarity. Even though this is reproduction art, no two prints can be exactly alike. Indeed, each print is completely unique. Using drops of "sensitizer" coating solution, I brush the coating onto high quality heavy weight paper, let it dry, then contact print an image by exposing the negative/paper sandwich to ultra violet light. This image was taken using an ancient Deardorff 8x10 inch field camera and a Schneider Symmar Convertible 360mm f/5.6 lens mounted in a massive #5 Compound shutter, Kodak TMax400 film, and tray developed in D76. My Palladium prints are very stable and should last 500+ years unchanged. I mount them on 4 ply museum rag. Due to the unique nature of the process, I am seriously considering showing the entire print, including the rebate edge and coated area. I'm thinking this might help underscore the unique nature of these images. Main Terrace
The Main Terrace at Yellowstone National Park's Mammoth Hot Springs area. The area contains approximately 50 hot springs. It is subject to continual change as hot water flows to the earth's surface. Calcium carbonate is also crucial to the terraces' growth. Thick layers of sedimentary limestone lie beneath the Mammoth area. As ground water seeps slowly downward and laterally, it comes in contact with hot gases charged with carbon dioxide rising from the magma chamber. Some carbon dioxide is readily dissolved in the hot water to form a weak carbonic acid solution. This hot, acidic solution dissolves great quantities of limestone as it works up through the rock layers to the surface hot springs. Once exposed to the open air, some of the carbon dioxide escapes from solution. As this happens, limestone can no longer remain in solution. A solid mineral reforms and is deposited as the travertine that forms the terraces--September 4, 2009 Related topics: geo contact lens korea progressive bifocal contact lenses hollywood contact lenses online contact lenses without prescription korean contact lenses free samples of contact lenses peroxide contact lens cleaning i order contact lenses |
