Mornings
Every morning I get back in from work and then go outside to enjoy a cup of coffee and a smoke. The key to the whole thing, is going outside, the coffee and cigg are nice, but why I really like it, is because it gives me the chance to sit down and watch the world go by. I though I could make a good shot of this little routine I have going on, so I went out with the camera and had a play. I tried closing the aperture just a little and waiting for cars and people to go past so I could get that sense of watching them go about life, but I ended up preferring this shot. The 1.4 aperture has only just let the cup be in focus (The text is in focus... but not the handle!) and it throws the background in to a blur, this represents how I watch the world at this time of day: I can see it, but ultimately I do not have to be a part of it, to me it really is nothing but an out of focus background to my life. The low contrast of the morning light gives this an almost relaxed feeling, and the lack of any real movement in the image keeps this feeling going, giving an almost sedated shot, which to be honest, is how I feel in the mornings!
