Why Best Buy Sucks

posted Jan 5, 2010 2:16 PM by Casey Chow

Here are 10 reasons why Best Buy sucks:
  1. They make you pay $40 so that your computer gets slower. [Link]
  2. Would you buy this model of RAM from Best Buy or Newegg? No comparison.
  3. 702 reviews averaging 1.9/10 can't be wrong.
  4. They don't let you try out the computers (though it's not as bad as Wal-mart, it stinks compared to the Apple Store).
  5. The "Geek Squad" can't possibly consist of real geeks unless they know offhand when the Epoch starts, which I don't think they do.

Some sort of background...I guess...

The Grieving Process

posted Dec 30, 2009 8:46 AM by Casey Chow

There are five steps to the grieving process:
  1. "We can't possibly have a band final! There is no band final! I must be dreaming! Were's the knife? I gotta wake up!"
  2. "WHY THE **** DO I HAVE TO HAVE A BAND FINAL?!! WHY DIDN'T I JUST GO FOR HOME EC.?!!!"
  3. "Please, oh please, big band director lord, I'll do anything if you grade easy!!!"
  4. "Life isn't worth it anymore... where's the wine and Tylenol when you need it?"
  5. "Well, no matter what, I'll have to live through it, I'll just bite the bullet."
  6. "NO! I CAN'T BITE THE BULLET!!! THERE IS NO BULLET!!!!"
  7. "Why me? Why now?"
  8. "I'm not going to die! I feel fine!"
  9. "Just let me live until I retire, please?"
  10. "WHY DOES THE GLASS HAVE TO HAVE STAINS? WHY MINE?"
  11. "I can't have ADD, I feel focused and refreshed!"
  12. "Oooh, a eraser that says recycle!"

Never Ever

posted Dec 28, 2009 2:13 PM by Casey Chow

One thing that you should NEVER EVER do is: watch a really good 3D movie.
I just watched Bolt and now I feel emotionally distraught. I can't even make my own sequel because I don't have a copy of the set, and even if I did, I don't have the skills or the disk space to make a sequel :(.

Airport Security

posted Dec 28, 2009 11:00 AM by Casey Chow

This article came up in my feeds today.
And all I can think of is, I can't wait to see what happens when somebody puts a time bomb up their nose.
Reading this article on CYA (Cover Your *$$) security, it makes perfect sense.
So, to sum up all the stuff I know about airport security:
  • It's stupid.
  • You can't have stuff on your lap except for books.
  • You can't use any electronics (as ridiculous as one of those games you get with a kid's meal).
  • They make you take off your pants.
  • You can't go pee within the first 30 minutes after takeoff.
  • If someone left a backpack full of explosives in a crowded movie theater, or detonated a truck bomb in the middle of a tunnel, no one would demand to know why the police hadn't noticed it beforehand. But if a weird device with blinking lights and wires turned out to be a bomb -- what every movie bomb looks like -- there would be inquiries and demands for resignations. It took the police two weeks to notice the Mooninite blinkies, but once they did, they overreacted because their jobs were at stake.
  • The only reason Airport security even exists is so that Homeland Security doesn't get blamed for anything.
  • Little Brother is a good book.
  • You can't bring coffee through airport security but you can bring needles.
  • It's stupid.
  • I might get a cease-and-desist letter from writing this.
  • Trains are much more safer, even though you can more easily get run over by them.
Oh yeah, and--wait a second, why am I writing this?

Openoffice.org is a great office suite with a word processor, spreadsheets, presentation, page layout, database, and formula writer. And it's free.
Okay I'm done.
