Mishra explains that "design is present whenever artifacts are created for people to use". For my niece the design begins with the selection of a physical plush pet at the store, which grants access to the Webkinz world online. These virtual pets are combined with rooms, objects as well as a virtual world of jobs, games, trivial, puzzles and more. Designing in Webkinz is more than placing the object, rather it's choosing the lifestyle one wishes to present themselves virtually. For example, obtaining money is a process designing one's online career. My niece explains this as we enter the employment office.to look at her resume of things she has done in the game for Kinz Kash.
Webkinz
When my niece if buying things in Webkinz helps her understand buying things in real life she replies "not really". Yet, objects, as Czik suggests change the way people experience their lives. Czik says objects reify goals and restructure attention into conformity. My niece explains the complex bartering system of selling items back that she no longer cares for. She knows the limit is 9 items, and explains "I think that selling is a rip off, it kinda seells you for not even half of what I bought it". And she knows that not everything in Webkinz has the same value, "sometimes buy until I realize I don't need".
