SERIES: REDISCOVERING MEXICO CITY An exhibition on Mexican glass design was set at the Franz Mayer Museum. I will be showing pieces by different artists throughout some weeks. A bottle of rested (reposado) tequila (yellow) sits before a bottle of aged or vintage (anejo) tequila (dark orange). These are designer bottles, hand-crafted, lovely indeed. Rested (reposado) tequila is rich in flavor, with light woody tones due to its two - month average fermentation in oak barrels. Color is yellow to light orange. Aged or vintage (anejo) tequila has strong woody flavors due to its year (or even three year) long fermentation in oak barrels. Color is deep orange or medium brown. Tequila is Mexico's most famous drink (together with delicious Mexican beer) inside and outside the country. HOW TO DRINK IT: A good tequila must be taken straight, no sodas, no cheap tequila-shots. It can be served with a side of lemon and salt (take a sip of tequila and then squeeze a bit of lemon in your tongue). In some places, tequila is served with sangrita (a tomato & organe - based spicy drink), which will enhance the flavor. In this case, you don't take it with lemon and salt. QUALITY: The quality of a tequila follows what is often taken as a simply rule: the more expensive it is, the better quality you will get. Fine 750 ml. bottles can go up to $200 - $300 USD.

This is my first attempt at a dry plate. This shot was taken with a Newton New-Vue 4x5. I converted one of my old film holders to hold the glass plate. The glass plate is a Kodak Magic Lamp glass that is about 31/4x4. Glass plate Gelatin 250 hard 1ml Chrome Alum 15ml Photo-flo approx. 30 ml of Formazo emulsion mixed with .5ml of Photo-flo was applied after the gellatin layer was dry. Exposure in bright, overcast light at 0900 hrs.: 10 seconds @ f4.7 The plate was then processed in Quicksilver 1:9 Kodak stop bath Kodak fixer. This is the contact print on Ilford Pearl IV done in the same processing. I know the scene is not that interesting, but it was right outside the door to my darkroom. I had no idea what the exposure times where going to be, but found out quickly, its long. Ill try to make the next shots more interesting.
