About Us

The 14th Kildare Scout Group unit was founded in 1979. This was after much fund raising was conducted by the people of the Parish to construct the Scouts Den.

Pat Ryan was the First Scout Troop Leader in the Unit and remained active as the unit leader until 2001. In 2001 Tony Kirwan was elected as Unit Leader of the unit and was replaced in  Early 2008 by Christy McEvoy.

Scouting in Monasterevin was very different then than it is today, Meetings were held on a Tuesday night, and they mainly consisted of foot drill and some rope work.  There was the occasional day in Moore Abbey woods completing pioneering projects.

As the years progressed the numbers of scouts increased and it was felt that it was beneficial to the Unit to establish both a Beavers and Cub Section. These are still in place today.

Our Unit wears the Yellow and White neckerchief. This was to celebrate the fact that the Scout Unit was founded in the same year as the Pope arrived in Ireland (1979). Yellow and White are the colors of the Papal Flag as well.
