Scouts

Scouts is a range of program ideas designed to appeal to young people in the twelve to fifteen/sixteen year age bracket. Young people change a lot during these ages and begin to look for more challenge and more responsibility so the program is flexible to allow this to happen.

Scouts have a wide and varied programme from the normal scout activities of camping and hiking to the specialised scout activities of canoeing, rock climbing and Backwoods survival. Scouts are active all year round and older Scouts will camp  all year round. Scouts do a range of activities which are linked together in a progressive badgework scheme. Badges can be achieved in First aid, pioneering, camping, Hiking, Compass work etc. The highest honour a scout can achieve is the Chief Scout Award. The highlight of the year is Annual Summer Camp when the troop  goes away for about five days camping sometimes travelling abroad.

Scouts will also take part in a myriad of other activities from rock-climbing to bowling and they will compete in a number of competitions from Quizzes, sports tournaments. photography county and national Camping skills competitions.

Scout groups are organised into smaller Groups called Patrols with an older scout (Patrol Leader) taking some responsibility for organising some of the troop activities. A Scout is more likely to be in regular contact with his/her Patrol Leader rather than his/her Leader
