Beaver Day Trip

posted 30 Jun 2010 03:47 by Brian Dunne
We left the Scouts Den at 10:30 am for the long trip to Bunratty in Co. Clare. When we arrived it looked like it was going to start raining, however a quick prayer to the weather gods sorted this out and we were blessed with lovely sunshine for the remainder of the day.
We started out by visiting some of the old houses in the Folk Village where the staff were on hand to show the beavers how life was back in the early 15th/16th Century. They see bread being cooked in a pot on an open fire, the Blacksmiths forge and a fisherman's hut. We then proceeded into the Castle it's self where we met a youth Group from the USA.
In the Castle a local historian was on hand to explain about life in the castle and all the beavers really enjoyed his stories. We spent about an hour wandering about the castle as seeing how life was back then. We then toured some more of the folk park before having lunch outside the local tea room.
After lunch we went to see some of the animals in the farm yard. This was were Billy Sinnott discovered the Chickens love Ice cream as one of them started to eat his.
After visiting a Water Wheel at the Mill, the greatest discover of the day was made, this was the Kids play area. The Beavers had a wonderful time climbing all over the Fort and playing on the swings and slides.
After a quick trip to the gift shop we departed and headed for McDonald's. we left Limerick after everybody had eaten their meals and we headed for home. We arrived back to the Den a small bit behind time at 8:30 pm. All in all everybody had a great time, and I'm sure that we will return to this venue in the future.
