(Scan tool) A device that interfaces with and communicates information on a data link
(Scan Tool) A computer based read-out device that displays OBDII parameters collected from a vehicle.
(Scan-Tool) A hand-held computer which can communicate with on-board computers on an automobile or truck.  Scan tools can read diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs), read data lists, command actions to take place, program on-board computers with new instruction sets, etc.
