Door framework - cutting with mortise chisel This is where my brain starts to ache as I work out the marking and necessary mortise depth for the door frame joint that I'm attempting. This joint has gone wrong before and I'm determined that it won't happen again. With the markings visible on the side I am gently siting the 6mm mortise chisel (I let my Dad's go and have had to repurchase - what a twot!) to mark and cut the mortise. The tape marks the depth necessary; I always go too deep, thank god for epoxy, gap filing glue. Chiseling the Mortises
We used the router to mill the long mortises in the legs. These long mortises will hold the panels between the legs. Had a heck of a time finding the 1/4 inch collet for my Hitachi router, but that is another story! Since we used a 3/8 inch bit to route the mortises 1/2 inch deep, we took two passes.
