Venturer Section
also known as
VENT 13
13th Lead the Way!
HOOOOP!!
The Venturer Section are the elite of the 13th. These guys have seen and done it all. They range in age from 16 to 21 and all have been with the Troop for more than 10 years.
Our particular areas of expertise in this section are Long Range Patrols and Expeditions, Wilderness Survival and Drill & Dress.
Not only do we assist the other section leaders in training their members but we also provide training on the three specialities mentioned above to other Scout and Guide units around the country.

These shelters are like the Ritz to a hardcore 13th Wexford Venturer!

Members of the Venturer Section and Knights head to the wilderness of the United States of America for their 2009 Expedition
7 brave souls drawn from the 13th's elite Venturer Section and Knights headed to prove themselves in the great American outddors by taking on a section of the Appalachian Trail.
They headed from the Vermont/Massachusetts state line southwards and took on the highest mountains the trail has to offer on their very first day!!
This was big bear country, with VL Adrian coming almost nose to nose with a hungry looking Black Bear but the 7 battled hard despite the tough terrain and terrible weather that shut down most of the American North East.
Following a tough week on the trail, the 7 lived it up in Boston for another week before heading home!

VENT13 achieve the Centenary Award!
The inventive Venturer Section successfully achieved the Centenery Award, which is an award to mark the 100 years of Scouting here in Ireland. How did they do it? Well they had to do a project to reflect Scouting in Ireland and 100 years so they put their thinking Boonies on and came up with...... a music video with a difference!!!!
Here it is on Youtube!!

Don't laugh and keep the comments nice please!!! This is our first single, the album will be out for Christmas!!!
VENT13 head on French adventure!!
As if our Austrian Adventure (below) wasn't enough overseas experience in one year for the Venturer Section of the 13th, we decided to tackle France next for a summer 2008 adventure!!!
So the Mighty VENT13 bid "au revoir" to the rainswept Irish country side which battered the poor Jamboree in Punchestown and headed "a la compagne" to 36-40 degree celcius Jambville, about 40 miles outside Paris!!

13th hit the Austrian Alps!
On the 5th February 2008, a small detachment of the Venturer Section arrived in the Austrian Alps accompanied by their Austrian brothers and sisters that they have camped with on expeditions in Italy in 2006 and Ireland in 2007.
The snow and cold weather gear was ready, but were the Venturers?

RETURN OF THE VIKINGS 2007!
ROUTE 059 - IRELAND 2007
We had a brilliant Venturer Camp this year, an event that was organised and run by the 13th Wexford Venturer Section called "return of the Vikings" where we hosted a non stop rollercoaster of an event for 13 of our Austrian Rover frinds.

A large number of the Venturer Section accompanied the Scout Section on the Unit camp to Surrey this year, including a visit to the World Scout Jamboree celebrating the 100 year anniversary of scouting. It doesn't get better than this!!! Click here for the pics!
13th Wexford Venturers hold Wilderness Survival Training for 8th Kilkenny Scout Troop
This is a good example of a typical Training course that our Boonie wearing Venturers provide to other Troops. Click here to view the images.
If you think that your section or scout troop would benefit in either a course on Survival, Expedition Planning and Techniques or Drill for a special occasion, please contact the Venturer Leader via the Contacts Page to organise and plan a course that suits you and your group.
Hikes
The Venturer Section of the 13th specialise in a number of fields, namely long range hiking, wilderness survival skills and drill & dress.
Hiking and expeditions are the most basic, fundamental element of the Venturer Section and sometimes we take the odd pic or too to show ye all what we do.
The following is a number of hikes over the past we while involving both current and former Venturers (now members of the Knights of the 13th Wexford Venturer Section). They are just a broad example of some of the different types of hikes we do and different environments we subject ourselves to.

This is the latest adventure by the crazy gang! This is a 25 km hike up in the Comeragh Mountain range in Co. Waterford. On this hike VL Adrian, Tom and Mark (turned out to be an all male afair, think the girls were getting their hair done!!!) completed a hike that saw them climb Mahon Falls and then complete 6 peaks in 1 hike!! Not bad, eh?! But then again, it is us lot!!!!! Enjoy the pics!!!

This one here is our jaunt up the Blackstairs Mountains for Eimer's Boonie Hike in Feb 2008. We completed 5 peaks including Mount Leinster in zero visibility, 100mph winds and freezing cold and wet! We were happy though!

This one here is another Boonie hike held in September last. Every member of the Venturer Section must "earn" their Boonie, the desert camouflage hat you see us wear in a lot of our pics. This signifies the end of being a scout and the begining of the much more responsible and adventurous life in the Venturers!!

Recently the Venturers, along with the Scout Section completed Pathfinder13, a 20km road hike twice traversing the widest part of the Hook Pininsula in South Wexford.
Our guys completed the 20k (with kit!) in 2hrs and 43 minutes!! Not bad eh!? It wasn't meant to be a race but some of the Scout Section thought us old guys just couldn't cut it any more! Funny guys, the best Scout team completed the route in a little over 3hrs 30mins, which in fairness, is still pretty good going!

Roverway 2006
A team of 8 venturers, pictured above, from The 13th Wexford headed to bella Italia this year as part of Roverway 2006. This involved a greulling 6 day "Route" through beautiful Tuscany, visiting the Leaning Tower, Da Vinci's house and workshop and Search & Rescue Training on Montalbano mountain. After the 6 day Route there was another 4 days where everyone (about 5,000 16-22 year olds from all over Europe and the world) came together for one huge camp at Loppiano, Tuscany.
Our team of intrepid explorers, VL Adrian, AVL Chris, Seán, Gary, Barry, John, Laura and Rachel (pictured above with Tortona Leader Marco Dallera), were joined by 2 Italian teams, an Austrian team and a team from Portugal on their route. So no speaking English for 10 days then. Well they're used to that as they all speak Wexfordian anyway!!!

13th Wexford Venturers battle hard in combat!
The fearless 13th Wexford's elite Venturer Section went into battle, quite literally, in October last when they went up against a larger force in Paint Ball.
The 12 heros fought valiantly against the superior force, long and hard, and managed to hold their own despite being outnumbered. Allthough beaten on the day in the battle, the 13th will return to win the war!
