REPLACE RELIEF VALVE. VALVE TYPES AND APPLICATIONS. SAFETY VALVE BACK PRESSURE Replace Relief Valve
Reduction Cooled Experiments 1 I filled up my propane tanks for my next firing. There aren't any propane delivery services in the suburbs, so I have to drive to a propane dealer. Fortunately, I live 1/2 mile from one. These are 100 pound tanks and they hold about 22 1/2 gallons of propane. They are supposed to be hauled upright, but some us may or may not do this. I'm not telling. Propane is really high now. I think I paid $3.50 a gallon this time. I could have gone down to the U-haul place and gotten it a lot cheaper. However, I quit using them after a bad experience. An inexperienced kid overfilled one of my tanks. After I got it home, the presssure relief valve blew out. The valve sounds like a shotgun going off. Propane is shooting out from the tank. I quickly hooked my hoses up and fired a preloaded kiln with it. The valve quit popping off after awhile, but I did have to have it replaced. It wasn't cheap. I can bisque my 13 cubic foot kiln about 3 times with one tank. I haven't fired to cone 10 in quite awhile, but I think I use between 1 and 1 1/2 tanks to highfire. Shoe Goo
Replacing the relief valve on my SOAR 16 inflatable canoe was pretty easy, but I couldn't get a good seal between the Hypalon and the valve. SOAR suggested using Shoe Goo. It worked, but I'm not sure I put it on correctly. I now think I was supposed to use it to seal the edges after screwing it down, not before. I think it's gonna be a lot harder to remove the next time it needs to be replaced - hopefully it will last another 10-12 years, though.
