a very little ringed plover
a very little ringed plover
We spotted a ringed plover attacking a seagull and realised it was guarding it's chicks. I popped Charlie on a lead and walked up the beach and sat on a dune to watch Cosper Wosper trying to photograph some of the action. I was able to help by whistling at Graham and pointing at the direction the birds had gone. They were trying to throw the intruders off the scent of their young by doing an amazing display...Scuttling along the sands at break-neck speeds and crouching low with vibrating wings. There were two pairs of adults involved and we got brief glimpses of a couple of chicks but they laid low and became invisible...I've seen this on the telly before but it was so special witnessing it in real life...what a great experience.

Rick Yaeger thoughtfully got me this plate set so I'll be able to eat after the movers take my stuff. Look -- there's even chopsticks, a napkin ring and a toothpick!
