Olmsted Locks and Dam Olmsted, Ill. - Ironworker Tammy Gaddis of Vienna, Illinois, tightens a one and three-quarter inch diameter length of rebar into the side of stilling basin shell number 3 at the Olmsted precast yard Sept. 8, 2011. The 48 lb., 9-foot 9-inch, continuity bar is one of hundreds used to tie together components of the dam under construction by the Corps of Engineers as part of the Olmsted locks and dam replacement project at Ohio River mile 964.4. It took almost 2 hours to get the old faucet out. There was zero room to work, and several bolts were corroded in place. The new faucet took all of about 20 minutes to install. Take my word for it, though, if you embark on a project like this, go drop the $15-20 on a basin wrench--seriously, you'll thank me later.
