Oil Cooler Assembly

This looks like a small Radiator used to cool off the engine oil or the Automatic transmission fluid. As air passes through the cooler, the temperature of the oil in the cooler is reduced. Some units reduce the temperature of the manual Gearbox and Differential lubricants in racing cars.

A heat exchanger for cooling oil. Most automatic transmissions are equipped with an oil cooler that's located inside the radiator. Since the radiator usually runs close to 200 degrees, the amount of "cooling" this kind of setup provides is questionable.

Check alignment between surfaces and floor pattern

Here you can see the top edge of the oil cooler exhausts (upper wing surface just inboard of the nacelles) lined-up with the undersides of the horizontal stabilizers. This kind of internal check is a must when checking model alignment, but you've got to have an external reference for the flatness of the horizontal stabilizers, and for checking that the stabilizers are really at 90 degrees with respect to the rudder and fin. The neat thing about the patterned vinyl floor is that it provides both long, straight, lines for the surface-to-surface parallels and the 90 degree reference for fin to stabilizer checking. But any fairly long, straight, line and 90 degree reference will do- a window frame, furniture, large books, kit boxes. Be careful with actual tile floors- individual tiles will have the 90 degree part but the straight line is up to the craftsperson who installed them. IMG_5463
