this is what a clarinet is
this is what a clarinet is
"what is a clarinet?" a woman asked me after we had attended a kettle drum and piano concert (bartok). Sitting at the bar, I grabbed a napkin off the stack and pulled my trusty ParkerT-ball jotter from my jacket pocket, they didn't have ink gel in those days, and I drew, having played clarinet for two agonizing years that seemed like decades when I was 10 - 11 yrs. old. I was kind of pleased with the result, and thought that if the image were blown up wall size, it might be quite arty. What do you think? Of course, this was some time back before I had declared myself an artist ... I tried to recapture that image here, drawing on a folded-up paper towel. I was mad to see the drawing again ... and even madder to post something to the napkin drawings group ... drawn June 2006
Picnic 1
Picnic 1
So I've always wanted my own picnic set and after procuring a used basket at a thrift store last year I set out to make one. The cutlery role is divided for each piece and the napkins. Everything is top stitched. The blanket is backed with a piece of tarp for durability, dryness and cleanliness and is padded with quilting batting. As the cutlery and dishware set were for four people I made four napkins. I'm not sure 4 people could fit on the blanket, but I suppose it could always been converted into a table cloth (?).
