09/2010: This beer stein cake was HUGE! Flavors were: Mocha: German Chocolate Cake with Coffee Buttercream, Milk & Cookies: Dark Chocolate and White Cake with layers of Oreo buttercream filling., Veggie Cake: Carrot Cake with Cream Cheese Filling, and Strawberry Shortcake: French Vanilla Buttermilk Cake with Strawberry Mousse filling. The whole thing was stacked and iced in Vanilla Buttercream and then covered in White Chocolate Fondant. Then the details were put on with edible images and decorated in fondant and royal icing. Then the whole cake was sprayed with Silver airbrush color. The pretzel, lid and handle were made from gumpaste. The "foam" was piped with buttercream. I should note that this cake was a total of about 20" high and 9" around. The logo on the front was about 10"x6" and the pretzel was about 6" across! It sat on a 20" board. This sucker was HUGE!

I got this vintage German beer stein from an auction box lot of knick-knacks. It is in great condition! It has a flip-top pewter lid, and there's a working music box in the bottom that plays a song when the tankard is picked up. Its previous owner had a varied and interesting collection of funny little 50s things. Off to eBay this goes, hopefully to be found by somebody who will love it as much as its previous owner did.
