Teacher of the Week for the week of Nov. 9th:
Hello Megan and Clayton,
I would like to nominate Mrs. Lenert from Wilson Elementary for Teacher of The Week. It was actually my son, Gilbert's, idea. One day while we were going to soccer practice, he heard your announcement on the radio as he had many times before. This time, though, he said, "If I nominated Mrs. Lenert, I would have a 'thousand' things to say about her." I was a bit surprised because he had only had Mrs. Lenert as a teacher for a little over a month. She is new to CCISD, actually she is new to Texas. She came to us from California with her husband who is now a Navy Jag at CCAD.
As I asked Gilbert to name a few reasons why he thought Mrs. Lenert should be Teacher of The Week, he went on to say:
SHE LOVES US AND TREATS US NICE NO MATTER WHAT WE DO!
SHE ALWAYS GIVES ME EXTRA TIME TO FINISH MY WORK AND DOESN'T MAKE ME FEEL BAD ABOUT IT.
SHE MAKES READING FUN AND TELLS US COOL STORIES.
SHE MAKES LEARNING INTERESTING AND EXCITING...
I THINK SHE'S AWESOME!
Finally, I have worked with teachers my entire career, and I have known some pretty outstanding teachers in the process. Mrs. Lenert is one of those teachers who just seem to stand out. She is SO EAGER to help both the kids AND the parents in ways that are ABOVE AND BEYOND what her duties entail.
I hope you will consider Mrs. Lenert for Teacher of The Week and help show her what a REAL Texas WELCOME is all about!
Thanks, Carmen Tejeda-Delgado and Gilbert Thomas Delgado |

Teacher of the week for the week of: October 19th
Hello guys I would like to nominate Sister Mary at Holy Family School for teacher of the week. My daughter (Elaina) and I think she deserves this award after working being at Teacher for 22 years.
She was ill sometime last year and was advised to stop teaching but she could not stay away from the daily hustle and bustle of school so she is still there part-time. Well really full time.
I hope you can see to give her this award. I hear your show all the time and Teacher's from private schools don't get enough credit.
Thank you,
Elaina Lara and Mary Gonzalez. Pictured (L-R) LeAnn from CCATCU, Sister Mary, Elaina (submitting student), Megan, and Clayton |

Teacher of the week for the week of: October 12th
I would like to nominate an extremely deserving teacher for “Teacher of the Week,” Mrs. Christy Hoffman a 7thgrade English teacher from Odem Junior High. She has taught for 30 + years most of them in Odem in Room #1. Anyone who has the opportunity to encounter Mrs. Hoffman in the classroom has been truly blessed. She is all about the well being of the students as well as making and understandable and fun learning experience for all. She always goes beyond the call of duty. She expects 110% from her students as she always gives 110% to her students. She has dedicated her teaching abilities everyday after school mentoring those who may need a little extra help! She makes the classroom challenging yet rewarding all at the same time. She has overcome many obstacles during her teaching career which include a battle with breast cancer and a severe car accident that left her hospitalized for more than three months. She has seen more than two generations pass through her door. Her compassion for the classroom and sense of loyalty and dedication to her students has won her recognition throughout the town! I would like to nominate Mrs. Hoffman for “Teacher of the Week” not only for being a wonderful and compassionate individual and teacher but also for having the patience of teaching her own children! That in itself was a task many teachers would have a hard time with! Thank you for your time and consideration.

Teacher of the week for the week of: September 28th
HI,
I would like to nominate my son's 2nd grade teacher for teacher of the week. He has only been in school for about 3 weeks, but I have seen quite a difference in him. Last year, he liked school well enough. However, so far this year he LOVES school and he loves his teacher. He says that 2nd grade is really hard, but it's a lot more fun. I don't know what she does to make it so much fun, but it's working. We just had open house this evening, and I can see that she really cares about her kids. She cares about what she's teaching and how she's teaching it. I really respect all teachers, but the one's like Mrs. Floerke, really should be recognized.
Please select Mrs. Floerke for the teacher of the week. She is GREAT!
Thanks,
Cheryl Stephens

To Whom It May Concern: Upon hearing of your teacher recognition award, I knew I had to write to nominate a very special teacher. With one in college and two still in school, I know a few things about teachers. It can sometimes be a challenge to get through a school year with someone whose heart just “isn’t into it.” For two of my children, their first grade years were exceptionally memorable. I believe this was in no short part to their exceptional teacher! I would like to nominate a wonderful teacher out of Flour Bluff Primary. She has been teaching quite a while (how long, I couldn’t say for sure…) and she has taught two of my four children. As the youngest just turned one, I have instructed her not to retire until my little Mattie can have her for first grade! She is a caring and nurturing teacher for first graders. Although she is certified in gifted and talented curriculum, she teaches in a regular class. That is such a special gift for these regular class students! She inspires and motivates these children to really excel and for first graders, she helps them form good work habits for future school years. It is no wonder my children love to write after taking her class. She encourages them to “journal” daily about anything going on in their lives. I have many precious mementos of their first grade year just from their writings. My now-4th-grader will write on a whim just to write. Her name is Elizabeth Lee. She comes to each new class with high expectations and her students always rise to the challenges she offers. My children loved her and I really appreciated her efforts. Therefore, I would like to nominate Mrs. Elizabeth Lee for your Teacher award. She is most definitely deserving of this recognition, and I hope that my letter conveys just that. Sincerely, Karen |

Teacher of the Week for the week of September 14th, 2009:
Hi!
My name is August Lowrance, I'm a graduate from GP of 2009. The teacher I have always felt should be definitely recognized is Ms Brown, GPs theater director for 30+ years. Of course, she gets recognized for being a "living legend" but I feel that she doesn't get the recognition she deserves. This year we made it to state in UIL One-Act with scenes from Auntie Mame. I was the lights productor back in the booth, lighting the stage for the states most honored actors and actresses. Ms Brown has definitely been the most impacting teacher I've ever had. Not only does she teach top of the line techniques for succeeding in life and theater, she loves her job. Hince the part where she's taught for over 30 years! She is truely AMAZING! I love her to death! Please consider Ms Charlotte Brown!
Thank You Dearly!

Teacher of the week for the week of May 11th:
Dearest Charlie, Clayton, Don and Megan~
First, I'd like to say you guys do a phenomenal job at KOUL-I'm a long-time listener and tune in to you at work..hats off to everyone there for creating this contest, it's great for our community!
And speaking of contest, look no further because I have your winner and her name is Mrs. Alena Roberts. Mrs. Roberts is a first grade teacher at Luther Jones Elementary. I will describe some reasons why I know she is your winner....
I have had the privilege of spending time in the classroom and have heard and seen first hand how she interacts with the kids-there is a mutual respect amongst everyone--this, coupled with Alena's incredible sense of tender loving care and patience are what make her an outstanding teacher/individual. I am thrilled knowing my son partakes of this type of environment five out of the seven days a week. Let's face it, children spend tons of time at school-so a teacher's influence is crucial. Briefly, please allow me a couple of quick examples to illustrate the type of teacher Alena is..I can remember one day telling her how I had noticed my son's handwriting had drastically improved from the beginning of the year..her eyes lit up and teared at the same time..she was so happy to hear that and proud of my son--also, Alena takes the time to send 'notes' home with the kids--telling them how they make her 'heart sing' and acknowledge something positive such as keeping a clean desk...She has a way of nurturing both their spirits and minds in a uniquely wonderful way:)
That said, I know you'll find her to be your winner--it would make her day to hear it from all of you at KOUL:) Thank you so much for taking the time to read my e-mail and again kudos to KOUL for conducting this contest for our community teachers!!
Sincerely, Patricia Perez |

Teacher of the week for May 4th is:
Dear Clayton Allen and Charlie McKay,
Hello! I am a new listener of KOUL 103.7 FM. I really enjoy listening to all of you and the great music. I listen to you in the car, at work, and at home. I was thrilled to hear of your "Teacher of the Week" program. There are many fantastic teachers who go unrecognized. I have been searching for a public avenue to recognize a teacher and your program is a wonderful opportunity to achieve just this.
Mr. Donny Patterson is the awesome teacher I nominate for "Teacher of the Week." He teaches Wellness at Incarnate Word Academy Middle Level in Corpus Christi. He goes the extra mile to come up with new ways to challenge the students to improve mentally and physically. He knows that they are not all wonderfully coordinated, natural leaders, geniuses, or even interested in health/exercise/sports. However, Mr. Patterson expects them to give 100% of their abilities on tests and participation. Also, he takes an interest in the students as individuals. He still smiles and talks with the kids daily. It's apparent that he really enjoys working with the kids and he treats them with respect. And, you can tell by the way the kids respond to Mr. Patterson that they enjoy him and his teaching style. He is well-liked and well-respected by the students. Mr. Patterson is an inspiring and hardworking teacher. It is quite apparent that he is doing what he enjoys and he enjoys what he is doing!! He deserves to be recognized for his achievements in educating and positively shaping the lives of the students he teaches. I hope you will select this wonderful and deserving teacher to be recognized as the "Teacher of the Week."Thank you for very much for your time and consideration!
Sincerely, Mary Kuffel, parent |

Teacher of the Week for the week of April 20th is:
Dear Clayton Allen and Charlie McKay,
How are yall? My name is Samantha Garrett I listen to yall every weekday morning from about 6:20 am to about 7:20 am so about an hour. :) Yall make is SUPER easy to get ready for school. I am a sophomore at Ingleside High School. I love my school and ALL of my teachers. But the one I think I love the most is Mrs.Puente. When I first saw my schedule for my sophomore year I was horrified because I had Puente. Everyone said she was just a monster (literally). All the stories I had heard about Puente where horrible, about how she will shred your 5 page essay in front of you and I also heard she was all for public humiliation. I was terrified.
I have now had Mrs.Puente for a total of about 30 weeks. She is AMAZING! I am in her Pre-AP class and she is just the coolest. She has shaped all of our minds into masterpieces. Throwing vocabulary at us like its not even funny, Mrs.Puente definitely deserves to be the teacher of the week. PLEASE!
p.s. IM ALSO IN BAND AND IM KNOWN FOR KNOWING WHAT THE "COUNTRY BOY DON WILLIAMS SHIRT ALERT IS"
THANK YOU THANK YOU.
SAMANTHA GARRETT!

Congratulations to Ms. Scott of Calk Elementary.
Teacher of the Week for the week of March 9th.
Here's her student's entry letter:
I would like to enter Mrs. Scott a second grade teacher at Calk Elementary.
She has been a teacher for 30 years. She is wonderful with the kids. I volunteer 3 days a week in her class and have personally seen how patient and understanding she is with the kids. Their eyes light up and so do hers when the children enter the room. She is very creative with her teaching actives. She even sets up a store on Fridays in the class room. The store is were the kids are rewarded of their behavior or reading time through out the week. They are given fake coins as rewards and on Fridays they can use those coins to purchase a items from the store. All of the items in the store are purchased with her own money. The kids love it. I feel that she deserves to be honored for not only how well she does with 23 students but for her 30 year of teaching our students. Thank you for considering her. Lezlee Hebert |

Congratulations to Ms. Newsom of London ISD.
Mar 2nd Teacher of the Week. (She's between Clayton & Charlie)
Here's her student's entry letter:
She is the awsomest teacher ever. She teaches 3rd grade at London School in Corpus Christi. She has a zoo in her classroom. We have a turtle, fishes, a rat snake, and a hamster. (She never lets the snake out – don’t worry Charley McKay!) She loves country music and whenever it’s really quiet in our room she turns on the radio to 103.7 FM, and sometimes sings “Chicken Fried” whenever it’s on. She loves to ride horses. Her horse’s name is “Cricket”. She is making us do a research paper on whales. I am learning a lot from it. She has very long hair which she sometimes puts in a bun and sticks pencils in it. It looks cute. She is caring and funny. She cried so much in a story called “The Stone Fox” that we read. She is pretty hard and we learn spelling and science and a lot of math. She explains it to us. We think Mrs. Newsome is smart and caring and funny and fun. We are very lucky to have her teaching 3rd grade at London. She deserves to be the Teacher of the Week. She is a real country girl. Please choose her! Sincerely, Emma Lassig (pictured next to Laura from CCATU) 3rd grade |

Good afternoon, I would like to nominate my son's second grade teacher Mrs. Figg of Calk Elementary. She is an absolutely wonderful teacher. She is very kind but firm with the children. She always tries to find a fun and innovative way of teaching the kids. She always has an open ear and open door policy with her kids as well as the parents. I admire her patience and willingness to conquer any challenge that may arise. She pushes her kids to excel without overwhelming them. Along the same lines, she praises the kids for any accomplishment no matter how small, and doesn't give up on the ones that have a harder time of understanding the concepts. She will be retiring at the end of this school year. I, as well as the many other parents whose children have been fortunate enough to have Mrs. Figg as their teacher, know what a great person she is. I just wanted to nominate Mrs. Figg to express my gratitude and appreciation for being such a wonderful teacher and person.
