Day Bed Linen - Green Napkins. Day Bed Linen
Upstairs/Downstairs. Design: Helios. Kate Gould Award: Gold medal winner. An Urban basement garden. What an idea. To have your own bed in the garden. This garden represents the idea of having your own room outside. Both private and shady, this inviting garden is for you to enjoy in the warm summer months. Water features and glass panels mimic windows to re-enforce the idea of this being a room outside. The day bed is a resting place in the shade and to relax from the summer heat. Recycled materials were used in this project. Planters and feature panels were made from power-coated scrap metal, and the stepping stones are recycled glass in resin. A warm red tone runs throught the hard and soft landscaping, reflecting the warmth of this garden, while maintaining a cool and pleasant environment. The soft foliage and planting softens the hard landscape. To me, this garden had a very mediteranean theme to it; with the linen and cushions on the bed, the trees and its vibrant colour theme. Art installation in storefront display window, of oscillating fans and bedsheets and pigtail fluorescents.
My interpretation is: 1) that the pigtail fluorescents are intended to place the scene in the present-day here-and-now, and 2) that the bedsheets and electric fans are for thinking about the hot Americans that yet lack air conditioning in their homes, writhingly uncomfortable and sleepless on sweat-soaked bedsheets during contemporary heatwaves. ------------------------ In downtown Upper Sandusky, Ohio, on May 30th, 2011, along the west side of South Sandusky Avenue (Ohio Route 199), north of West Johnson Street.
