NOTRE DAME, OHIO STATE MARCH ON
Two GWLL teams advance to second round for the first time
INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – Two of the three Great Western Lacrosse League (GWLL) teams that qualified for the NCAA Tournament advanced last weekend. Unseeded Ohio State toppled No. 8 Cornell in an upset blow-out, winning No. 6 Notre Dame squeaked out an 8-7 overtime versus Colgate celebrated it’s most successful NCAA Tournament selection on Sunday, as the GWLL learned that three of its six teams would be competing for a national championship. That’s the most teams the league has qualified for the national tournament in its 15 year history. The only other NCAA conference to have more teams earn bids is the Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) who will be sending four teams. Coming in as the only seeded team from the GWLL is the University of Notre Dame (13-2), who’s recent GWLL Tournament Championship helped earn the No. 6 seed for the Fighting Irish. The Ohio State University (10-5) and University of Denver (10-6) earned at-large bids to the tournament.
