                                                                    Computer Science
"Computer Science-noun, The science that deals with the theory and methods of processing information in digital computers, the design of computer hardware and software, and the applications of computers"(dictionary.com 2008) Students who choose to major in computer science in college are usually fascinated by computers and enjoy spending time learning how they work. The study of computer science consist of many different studies such as design, programming languages, data structure , and basic theory just to name a few. Once a student has gained a degree in computer science it opens up many different opportunities one can pursue.
Students with a degree in computer science may pursue one of many different careers depending on which interest them the most. In computer science it "is a very broad area in terms of the fields you can get a job in, but they all deal with how to program a computer. By majoring in computer science, you will end up being some kind of computer programmer, software engineer, or systems analyst, and write computer programs for a living."(Tolman 2008). With this said students who get a degree have many options such as working for Sony, Microsoft , apple, or any video game company. All of these fine companies have great products that they put out and jobs are offered to all of the fields of computer science. While pursuing a degree"The goal of our group to design and develop software tools and both traditional (paper) and web-based materials for the support of teaching and learning in computer science courses."(Computer science education at duke 2006). While an undergraduate, the education one gains should help one prosper in there future career.
There are different courses that are taken while pursuing a computer science degree a few are " Artificial intelligence, Computer system organization, Data structures and algorithms, Digital system design, Introduction to program design, Mathematics for computer science, Software engineering, and The theory of formal languages"(CollegeBoard 2009). These courses all help one another as one needs theses courses to become a reasonable computer programmer, the more knowledge one knows the greater the reward. The computer world is changing everyday as programmers learn and gain new technology so "The curriculum's mathematics and statistics component ensures that students have the formal tools to remain current as technologies and systems change, rather than be limited by a narrow focus on programming alone. At the same time, students gain insight into the practical issues of building and maintaining systems by participating in intensive project-oriented courses" College courses enable there students to stay on there feet as the pursue there careers in this everyday changing career.
"Computer science majors learn about computer systems and the way humans and computers interact from a scientific perspective. Instruction includes the theory and design of hardware and software"(Collegeboard.com 2009). Students who study computer science overcome issues and create new products for the computer world. As time goes on technology will become what some can only imagine.
