The articles and podcasts you find on this edition of the Scientific Latin have been composed by students of the Royal Latin School who have an interest in science, medicine, dentistry or veterinary. Many of these students would like to pursue careers in these fields. To show their commitment, they have researched different topics and produced high quality articles, podcasts and posters on their interests, which they would like to share with you.
Lillingstone Lectures
On Wednesday 24 November we had the pleasure of welcoming Professor Greg Whyte OBE to the RLS, both for opening our brand new Sports Campus and giving the first Lillingstone Lecture for this year on Sports Science and the Limits of Human Performance.
What was really fascinating was how many factors are influencing the level of performance, to the point where even changing socks on a bike in the wind tunnel would give a 1% increase in performance.
The presentation was very engaging and the examples (and name dropping!) gave a great insight to what he does and how he helps both top athletes and celebrities to be at the top of their game and are able to outperform themselves. His stories on the incredible things some human bodies are capable of doing were amazing.
It was amazing to see that so many students, parents and others that are interested in science attend this lecture.
Thanks to the Lillingstone Trust and Mr Woodward for organising this truly inspiring first lecture of the year.
