I am so excited to have a full room to have chats with in Spanish, with both 6th grade World language explorations and 8th grade Spanish 1. We are starting out with things that students like, want and have, and discussing them. The vocabulary that we are working with is made up of the words that the students themselves want to know and are interested in. For example, last year several people loved horses, so we had lots of conversations about horses. This quarter so far, we have talked about dogs, cats and family.

If you are in quarantine, please work independently in Senor Wooly. There will be official assignments, as well as eBook reading. For the eBook, go to SenorWooly.com, click on "stories" at the top of the page, read the pages of Me Llamo Victor, and then do the activities for it.

Research shows that when learning a new language, listening and reading come first, followed by speaking and writing. Everyone is ready to speak at different times; I have told students that I won't force them to speak beyond si or no, or choices. Some students in the class already know a lot of Spanish, and so I work to differentiate for everyone, so there is a good level of challenge for all students.

It's important to remember that the 8th grade class is for High School credit, so it is an opportunity to get credit and improve your grade point average. On the other hand, it is also possible to hurt your grade point average if the students don't attend and keep up with the material.

If you have any questions at all, please reach out by email.
