Drape Method

Drape/Soft Slab

Also known as the soft slab method, the drape method starts similarly to slab construction by rolling out long thin sheets of clay. Instead of letting them dry to leather hard and then constructing your sculpture, you lay, or drape, your slab over a form. Keeping it draped over the form while it dries to leather hard helps it retain the shape of the form. You and your group will work together to create a drape set. You can make a set of bowls, a set of coffee mugs, a set of plates, or a set of dishes consisting of matching cups, bowls, and plates.
